We always knew Torquay was a top destination, so it came as no surprise to us when Trip Advisor voted it England’s Top Summer Staycation Destination of 2021. The trend of staycations looks set to continue well into 2022. There’s so much to see and do in Torquay it is the ideal destination to visit. Our personal Top Ten suggestions can be found below:
1.Fish & Chips on the Beach
With an abundance of fish and chips shops, more often than not with locally sourced fresh fish from the region, nothing quite beats a fish and chip dinner on the beach watching the sun go down.
- Cockington Country Park
Just a ten-minute walk from the town centre lies a hidden gem in Cockington. A whole village which has everything from Cockington Court, a manor house with roots in medieval times, acres of pretty country park with duck ponds, numerous tea rooms, a village pub and plenty of walks.

- Babbacombe Downs
We almost don’t want to tell you about this hidden gem! Nestled on the clifftop overlooking Oddicombe Beach, Babbacombe Downs has the highest cliff top promenade in England, and on a clear day you can see right across to Portland Bill in Dorset.
- Coastal Walks
With over 22 miles of unspoilt coastline, its no wonder hikers come here in their droves! You don’t have to be serious about walking to enjoy a coastal walk. Our favourite is Daddyhole Plain which is a 1.9 mile moderate walk, which takes in some of the best views of the Bay.
- Boat Trip
A boat trip is the perfect way to experience the English Riviera from one of its best vantage points – the sea! Whether you’re looking for a sight-seeing trip, fishing excursion or simply to cross the bay on a ferry, you’ll find it all here.
- Agatha Christie Mile
Drift back into the style and opulence of the Jazz Age as you retrace the steps of the world’s best-selling author along Torquay’s seafront.
- Italian Gardens on Torre Abbey
Don’t miss the Italian Gardens, which form part of Abbey Park and Meadows. Here you’ll find a charming pond with fountain and water rock garden.
